2020 Member/Member Championship https://playriversedgegolf.com/2020-member-member-championship/ https://playriversedgegolf.com/2020-member-member-championship/#respond Thu, 16 Jul 2020 15:25:48 +0000 https://playriversedgegolf.com/?p=2676 On June 30th and July 1st Rivers Edge held its annual two-day Member/Member Championship. Despite the restriction, as a result of Covid 19, our resilient Members and Staff were bound to find a way to keep our major events intact and moving forward while complying with mandates. Throughout the event the only real significant changes made were the inability to have a formal awards ceremony with dinner, as the event is accustomed to. As for the competition itself and the spectacular course conditions, our members would not be denied a fantastic major!

With the cancelation of a formal dinner our Double Eagle Grille still managed to find a way to compliment the event through some tasty food, served via boxed lunches during play. Picnic Food was the theme: Kim’s Famous Fried chicken, Potato Salad, Broccoli Salad and Cobbler with ice cream.

The winners of our 36 hole tournament were;

Men’s Division= Kurt Reynolds/Rob Pick with a net score of 135

Women’s Division= Shirley Arnold/Sandy Campbell with a net score of 139

Following are the participants who placed in the prize money and won on course contests:

Men’s Division:

  1. Rob Pick & Kurt Reynolds – 135
  2. Tony Camerota & Bob LaMarca – 136
  3. Jack Barrett & Harold Strunk – 139

Women’s Division:

The evening centered around the skills competition and team photos taken from atop the bluffs overlooking the Shallotte River with the golf course in the backdrop. The skills competition was a tricky combined team closest to the pin contest, hit from an imaginative location down to the 18th green, with spectators and participants spanning the entire patio from above.

Rivers Edge’s Crazy Neighbors are at it Again! https://playriversedgegolf.com/rivers-edges-crazy-neighbors-are-at-it-again/ Wed, 26 Jun 2019 17:04:19 +0000 https://playriversedgegolf.com/?p=2361 ONE HANDED WINE PUTTING CONTEST

They’re at it again, residents up to their shenanigans. Loud boistrous noises, uncontrolled excitement and all the ingredients that make this event such a hit throughout the entire community!

OHWPC Committee L to R: Mary Lou Reynolds, Sandy Campbell, Dave Arnold, John Reynolds, Kathy Strunk & Rob Pick

On May 27th Rivers Edge Golf Club held its annual One Handed Wine Putting Contest. The object of the event is to putt one handed while holding a glass of wine in the other hand. To make it even more challenging our OHWPC committee assembled a tricked up putting course that not only challenges the most advanced player but provides all skill levels with equal enjoyment.

It is one of the most popular events held at Rivers Edge and the participation is proof alone. On a day when temperatures reached triple digits the contest had nine total teams with just shy of 80 participants. The event originally had over 100 players registered and not even mother nature with all her might could stop them!

The Rules Are Simple:

  • One handed putting only.
  • Some teams will have 8 players vs. 9. If that’s the case, rotate taking turns for the extra putt.
  • Each player gets one putt, PER HOLE, put their score next to their name and total each hole at the bottom of the column.
  • Hole #9, is Opposite Hand Putting. You must use the putters that are located at the hole.
  • On the crime scene hole, if your ball stays in the body, you must deduct from your score (negative number).
  • If there is a tie, then the teams will have a play off on a hole chosen by the committee.
  • HAVE FUN!

The Winners of your 2019 One Handed Wine Putting Contest are;

From Left to Right: BJ Hale, Georgia Folkins, Maralee Martin, Jim Baumgarten, Bob Grundy, Maria Bense and Jack Barrett

Here are some more highlights from the fun filled event!

Rivers Edge: Since You’ve Been Gone https://playriversedgegolf.com/rivers-edge-since-youve-been-gone/ Thu, 21 Mar 2019 18:42:40 +0000 https://playriversedgegolf.com/?p=2319 Has it been some time since you’ve played Rivers Edge? Well it’s time to remedy that, call today and BOOK NOW, you have missed a lot in the past few years! Back in 2017 we started a theme “Breathing New Life into the Edge”, an ongoing story line of renovations and projects to enhance and refresh Rivers Edge. It is a very exciting time for our facility as we close in on the final chapter of this story line and spread the word Rivers Edge is as strong as it has ever been.

Before we move on let’s recap what has taken place. You may click on the links below to revisit our archived publications relevant to the story line;

Breathing New Life into the Edge Chapter 3

Breathing new life into the Edge: Progress Report

Welcome back from your journey in time. You may wonder why we schedule and accomplish so much in the cooler months, due to the temperatures the majority of our native grasses go dormant or to sleep, foliage is not actively growing, therefore it affords our maintenance team more time to focus on improvement projects. Let’s take a look at what was on the agenda and where we are today;

  • Bunker Renovations Holes #1 & #10: For those who have played Rivers Edge consistently over the years, you may recall the waste areas to the left of these holes to be slightly overgrown and lacking sufficient drainage, yielding the areas at times unplayable. You will be amazed at the difference on your next experience. We are even looking to create a split fairway on hole #10 as the renovated section matures.
  • Cart Barn Renovations: We took this time to gut the entire cart barn and improve the overall health and safety of this area for our staff.
  • Double Eagle Grille New Stove: With the addition of our new menu and the high demand of dinner events, rewarding our staff with this new equipment was a no-brainer!
  • Clubhouse Roof Replacement: Sitting on the Shallotte River for twenty years and enduring several hurricanes can weather any building. It was time our clubhouse received updated protection, now affording us the opportunity to enhance minor interior cosmetic issues.

2019 Net and Gross Winners
Left to Right
Dave & Shirley Arnold, Jane & Craig Lea

Rivers Edge Golf Club’s first event of the year, the Sweetheart Tournament, was a big success. The weather was in the mid 60’s with plentiful amounts of sunshine. The format for the Sweetheart Tournament was a Texas Scramble, Best Ball, with 100% of the players handicap index used. We had a total of 40 participants, issued  prizes to the top 3 teams in the Gross & Net Divisions and had a closest to the pin contest for both  men and women. The great day of golf was complimented by a wonderful taco bar at the awards ceremony by our great staff in the Double Eagle Grille

Just when you thought it was a wrap; a special surprise was still in store for our participants. We arranged for our digital marketing partners at Zeus Media to be on site taking photos and filming B roll of the tournament. All participants were send a personalized couples photo with a Valentine theme border the following day, February 14th. All participants will also received a  video of the tournament.

The icing on the cake arrived February 14th when our Double Eagle Grille doubled down and hosted a special Valentines Day Dinner. The restaurant closed early to begin decorating and preparing for a romantic evening. The dinner was sold out with a waiting list we worked hard to accommodate. Members and residents of Rivers Edge dined in a formal setting with Valentines theme decorations splashed around the clubhouse. The evening was complimented by our very own Donn Stanley as he played music and enhanced the atmosphere.
